Introducing ‘The Chatham 5’: Dale & Karen Elliott, Jim & Ginny Shields, and Alana Haines

East Africa River Mission, on behalf of its Board of Advisors, Partners, and Director are proud to announce the Rufiji Lighthouse Teachers for the upcoming 2020 season. Hailing from Chatham, ON, Canada, dubbed the ‘Chatham 5’, they are Dale & Karen Elliott, Jim & Ginny Shields, and Alana Haines. Between July and August, this team of five will open the English School at the Lighthouse for the communities in Tanzania, East Africa living along the ancient Rufiji River. They will also help EastARM promote and operate a newer initiative to the children of the Rufiji villages, the Dinner Club (eastarm.net/dinnerclub). Further, they have a special focus this year to identify and assist village children with mental challenges, a vulnerable and neglected demographic of the area! All included their contribution will be significant, and we are asking you to invest in this project through these five individuals.

Dale & Karen Elliott join us from a previous project to Rufiji, Tanzania, with EastARM back in 2018. Click here to see the full report of that 2018 project. After returning to Canada, the Elliotts decided they would travel again with EastARM to help the Rufiji River communities, and they recruited a team of three others, the Shields and Alana Haines. Jim & Ginny Shields have two married children, both serving in churches with their significant others and families. They’ve been active in their own church through the Vacation Bible Camp program. Alana Haines is retired now, but worked professionally as a support to children in Canada with mental disabilities. She looks forward to doing the same for the kids of the Rufiji villages. As of the date this posting, this team are raising funds to accomplish the project before them. You can invest in this team and their work by visiting EastARM.net/Chatham5
